Nikujaga
Every culture seems to have its own “meat and potatoes” dish, and Japan is no different. Nikujaga literally translates to “meat potato” - “niku” means “meat,” usually beef, and “jaga” is the shortened version of “jagaimo,” which are white potatoes in Japan. This is different from my Japanese Beef Stew recipe - this is more like a Japanese pot roast. My recipe is a little different from the traditional nikujaga though - it’s all made in a rice cooker rather than in a stove - super simple. It's a tasty Japanese comfort food to enjoy at home solo, or to impress your friends & partners - I bet it would be perfect for an at-home anime or Japanese film theme night!
